Maurizio Seracini

Master of Old Master Paintings

Maurizio Seracini has a few gnawing questions: Is it possible to find Leonardo Da Vinci’s most priceless and highly praised work of art, lost for centuries? And if he pursues that search, looking as he must behind other artists’ work, will he find new perspectives on the other artists and the masterpieces they created?

Seracini chose to seek answers to these questions after they were posed to him more than thirty years ago by one of the world’s leading art experts. With the backing of the National Geographic Society, the Smithsonian, and others, he has been able to search through more than 2,500 important works of art and architecture. Although he has not yet found the lost masterpiece, he has developed a world renown reputation for spotting fakes and uncovering hidden masterpieces.

On Wednesday, April 30th, Maurizio Seracini will take our community on a tour of what he has discovered underneath these famous works of art; incredibly beautiful under-drawings that allow us to see the artist’s creativity and his treasure trove of ideas. In addition, he will lead the audience on “a treasure hunt for grown ups” as he discusses conspiracy theories, riddles and clues that are a part of his search for the lost Da Vinci treasure, the Battle of Anghiari.

Seracini received his bioengineering degree from the University of California, San Diego, and was instrumental in establishing the Center of Interdisciplinary Science for Art there to aid in his research. He now works in Florence, Italy in his role as Director, Emeritus of the Center for Interdisciplinary Science for Art, Architecture, and Archaeology (CISA3) at UCSD and lectures worldwide.

Please join us on April 30th at 6:00 p.m. for wine and light hors d’oeuvres. Mr. Seracini will begin speaking at 6:30 and will allow time for audience questions. Advance ticket pricing of $20 will be available until April 25th, after that time tickets will be $25. Tickets may be purchased HERE, or by calling (858) 381-8070.

Viewpoints is co-presented by The Village Church and the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation.  The goal of the lecture series is to inform, inspire and impact by providing a forum in which individuals, renowned in their fields, share their knowledge, wisdom and insight with members of our community.
